Abstract

A summarization of the findings of a report on Escherichia coli O157:H7 generated by the US Dept. of Agriculture reveals that the origins of the bacteria are difficult to identify and that prediction of critical control points is impossible. E. coli O157:H7 received notoriety in 1992 during an outbreak in Washington, which received national coverage, resulting in the hospitalization of 600 people and the death of four children.
