Abstract

A stress field computation technique representing the microscale stresses of honeycomb's hexagonal cells is used to calculate critical transverse shear forces that develop in the honeycomb sandwich plate buckling due to lateral loads. A periodic media homogenization theory helps evaluate microscale stress values. Elastic restraints from neighboring hexagonal cells are also included to develop a design criterion for the sandwich plates.
