Bernardo Bertolucci's two films, 'The Conformist' and 'The Spider's Strategem,' made in 1970, depict the political ambiguity between the fascist and liberalist ideologies of an Italian. Bertolucci discarded his earlier policy of alienating his audience while directing the movie, and re-edited the movie to make the concept of Oedipal conflict, as depicted in the movie, clear.
