Abstract

Primordial switching of globin genes in Lampetra zanandreai causes variations in the cDNA expression of the larval and two adult globins during lamprey proliferation. Phylogenetic parsimonial studies of larval cDNA transcript indicates that larval cDNA developed during cyclostome formation. Switching of the globin mRNA transcripts and globin gene transcription by erythroid tissues help develop a model for globin gene modulation.
