Abstract

Jackson, MI-based Orbitform Inc. has built an equipment capable of forming thermoplastic materials by thermopneumatic staking process. Applications for this staking process include fastening of automotive interior panels, plastic toys, telephone bases and electronic equipment. The cycle is time-controlled to ensure proper heating and cooling of the plastic material. Thermopneumatic staking is a simple yet cost-effective alternative to ultrasonic welding and hot stake forming.<br />Virtually all thermoplastic materials can be formed by thermopneumatic staking using equipment built by Orbitform Inc., Jackson, Mich.
