Abstract

Title III requirements of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments have made the emissions of hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) from the combustion of pulverized coal an important issue. Combustion tests results show that the combustion of coal causes the emission of organic HAPs. In addition, the use of low-NOx combustion modifications results in the increased emmissions of such compounds. However, the total emission rate of these compounds will most probably be very low and significantly less compared to the metal HAP emissions rate.
