Abstract

Gd2Ni3Si5 and Sm2Ni3Si5 crystallizing in orthorhombic U2Co3Si5-type structures, similar to rare earth species, have similar antiferromagnetic ordering with different de Gannes scale ordering temperature. Magnetic susceptibility of Gd2Ni3Si5 shows a Curie-Weiss pattern and that of Sm2Ni3Si5 shows a deviated Curie-Weiss pattern due to the low excited state of Sm3+ ions.
