Abstract

The rate of DNA repair is related to the rate of formation of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase and its degradation by poly(ADP-ribose) glycohydrolase. Gamma-ray induced single-strand breaks in DNA are effectively rejoined with the help of NAD-dependent poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase automodification. The formation of poly(ADP-ribose) controls the maintenance of chromosomes and exhibits dual functional characteristics.
