Abstract
- The replacement of Fe atoms with Mn atoms reduces the ferromagnetism of YFe2 due to decrease in exchange splitting, as shown by the fully self-consistent discrete variational method. Magnetization, Mossbauer measurements, diffuse neutron scattering and NMR studies indicate the ferromagnetic coupling between Fe and Mn atoms. The decrease in Fe moment is due to the hybridization between the 3d minority-spin bands of Fe and Mn.
