Silurian extension in the upper Connecticut valley, United States and the origin of middle Paleozoic basins in the Quebec embayment

The discovery of mafic dike swarm with sheeted dikes led to the belief that these were generated during Silurian extension producing Connecticut valley-Gaspe trough. The Quebec embayment of the Laurentian rifted margin provides an alternative hypothesis regarding the origin of basin, being pull-apart basins.
