Seals and gaskets: new methods cut water, energy consumption

Dry-running mechanical seals, providing reduced energy and water consumption, have become more widely used in pulp and paper mills, but compression packing is still used more widely. Durametallic Corp's Timothy Suprise noted that new mechanical seals offer easier installation. Garlock Inc's Al Harrelson pointed out that compression packing makers have developed their own dry-running products.
