Abstract

13C-nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic analysis of the cellular metabolism of (1,6-13C) fructose 1, 6-bisphosphate in hog carotiod artery segments reveals that hog artery metabolizes (1,6-13C) fructose 1,6-bisphosphate during hypoxia and normoxia, with (3-13C) lactate as the main metabolic product. (3-13C) lactate generation is higher during hypoxia, suggesting that the cellular metabolism level is more during the energetic state of the tissue. Exogenous additions of 20 mM of fructose 1,6-bisphosphate enhances isometric force preservation in the hog carotid artery.
