China's energy demand, investment needs to soar

Abstract

Chinese demand for energy is expected to increase about 160% by 2015, according to a survey by DRI International Energy Consulting. Foreign investments will be needed to help finance the $1 trillion cost, of which half will go to adding 600 million kv in electric power resources. Petroleum refining capacity, about 3.3 million b/d in 1995, must almost triple, but coal will continue to supply most of the country's energy.<br />China's energy demand will jump by almost 160% during 1993-2015, and meeting that demand growth will call for energy outlays of $1 trillion.
