Determining the quantum efficiency for activation of an organometallic photoinitiator for cationic polymerization

A new experiment in mechanistic organometallic photochemistry that involves measuring the photochemical efficiency for arene displacement from a mixed compound of iron is described. The experiment teaches students a wide range of laboratory skills and instrumentation and students learn how to prepare and handle solutions of light-sensitive compounds for photochemical studies.
