Abstract
- A five-year prospective study of 56 self-reported HIV-seropositive and seronegative homosexual men revealed their degree of abstinence from alcohol abuse to be directly influenced by factors such as the subjects' health concerns and self-perceptions of a clean societal image. The fear of AIDS was a great influence in effecting changes in the gay community's attitudes against risk-taking, pertaining to substance abuse.
