Abstract

Brazilian Pres. Fernando Henrique Cardoso's major economic reform is succeeding despite great odds and the pessimistic forecasts of observers of the country's economic situation. The results have, in fact, been dramatic as the country not only survived the investment crisis in the rest of Latin America brought about by the Mexican peso debacle but also sustained the strength of the 'real' in international currency markets.
