Abstract

A study to explore, the impact of financial strain, social support, and negative interactions on depressive symptoms among older African Americans and the role of mastery as a mediator in the associations, is presented. Findings reveal mechanistic pathways that relate financial strain with depressive symptoms and suggest that mastery is an important link between negative interactions and mental health.
