Abstract

The rearrangement and nucleophilic substitution of cyclo-propylcarbinyl and cyclobutyl halides over NaY zeolite has succeeded in the formation of [C.sub.4][H.sub.7.sup.} cations as discrete intermediates inside the zeolite cavity. The results have shown that zeolites have acted as solid solvents, thus permitting ionization and solvation of ionic species.
