Abstract

A spatially resolved cathodoluminescence method was used to study the single zinc oxide (ZnO) nanopillars grown by the vapor-liquid-solid process on a-plane sapphire. The spectral position of the bound exciton lines and their narrow linewidths along the single pillars suggest that the pillars grow without strain on the a-plane sapphire substrate.
