Abstract

A Gallup survey conducted Dec. 6-11, 1995 found that 42% of Canadians support constitutional veto legislation, 37% are opposed, and 21% have no opinion. The legislation stops the federal government from making a constitutional change without the approval of Ontario, Quebec, and two of the four provinces. The legislation was altered to give British Columbia its own veto. Canadians responded similarly to both versions of the veto bill. Central Canadian residents showed the highest approval among Canadians.
