Abstract

A Gallup poll conducted Dec. 6-11, 1995 found that 60% of Canadian respondents support sending troops to the Balkans as part of the U.S.-led NATO peace-keeping mission. Thirty-two percent oppose sending the 1,000 troops that Canada has committed. Almost twice as many college-educated Canadians support deployment of troops (69%) compared to public school educated Canadians (35%). Support is greater in Atlantic Canada (70%) than in Quebec (54%). One-quarter of Canadians 65 years and older prefer total elimination of Canada's participation in the peace-keeping mission.
