Choice of a regular physician and health care utilization: principal-agent issues for American veterans

The factors affecting the choice of regular physicians and the effects on health care use by the location of regular physicians are studied. Veterans Health Administration (VA) enrollees with regular VA physicians were more likely to use VA services for inpatient care, while those with regular non-VA physicians were more likely to use VA for special care.
