Abstract

The planting of new woodlands and forest can be of great benefit to local communities and these should be understood by planners. An example of how woodlands can contribute to leisure activities is shown in a research project entered upon by the UK's Forestry Commission. The research program aimed to collect information on how planners perceive woodlands and forests and to what extent they are considered in development plans. Details of the project are presented.
