Abstract

Knowledge of the homeostasis and metabolism of zinc to analyze the deficiency and overloading of zinc helps in the assessment of the zinc requirements of the body. Zinc participates in the body's enzymatic activity, signal transduction mechanisms, gene transcription and other metabolic processes. A regular dietary supply of zinc is important for the body. Plasma zinc concentrations are analyzed for estimating zinc deficiency.
