Abstract
- The biochemical pathways for the decarboxylation of pyruvate that result in electrophilic substitution at an acyl carbon are discussed. The reaction involves addition of enzyme-bound thiamin diphosphate (TDP) to carbonyl group of the substrate, which provides an intermediate whose decarboxylation leads to stabilized intermediate.
