Abstract

Reaction of CS2 slurry of ZnS6(TMEDA) with Se2Cl2 at -60 degrees celsius generate 1,2-Se2S6 by tranfering S(sub 6)(super 2-) as an intact unit. Photolysis initiate an intramolecular reaction due to the transient synthesis of rings with excocyclic chalcogen atoms. NMR measurement indicate that CS2 solutions of 1,2-Se2S6 are thermally stable and exhibit a single resonance at 631 ppm. In crown geometry equivalent Se atoms are attached through a C2 rotation axis. The experimental procedure for the synthesis of ZnS6(TMEDA) is discussed.
