Suppression of ftsH mutant phenotypes by overproduction of molecular chaperones

A study was conducted to examine the effects of overproduction of molecular chaperones on the multiple phenotypes of ftsH mutants of Escherichia coli. Trypsin digestion, immunoblotting and other molecular techniques showed that overproduction of Hsp60/Hsp10 or Hsp90 repressed growth and protein export in E. coli. Overproduction of Hsp90 was also shown to alleviate the Std phenotype.
