Abstract
- Flocks of waterfowls that have migrated to Aurora Settling Basin have died due to the hydrocarbon wastes in the tailings pond used by Syracuse Canada Ltd. The oil company claimed that they have an effective tailings management system, however the extreme weather conditions have affected its deployment. Details of the plight of the waterfowls and the protection of the tailings pond in Canada are presented.
