ATM traffic management and the impact of ATM switch design

A study focuses on the currently defined network traffic classes, their Quality of Service requirements and the mechanisms used for traffic contract negotiation and maintenance. The asynchronous transfer mode switch design is found to have a significant effect on the network's ability to effectively support various traffic classes. The benefits of advance bandwidth management techniques are examined.
