Abstract

Genetics determined the arrest of ameloblast activity which resulted in thin tooth enamels among Neanderthals. The degree of prism decussation and the length of prisms are the factors involved in enamel density. Higher degrees of prism decussations connote thin enamels while long prisms indicate thicker enamels. These facts support the theory that thin enamels are characterized by rapid tooth formation prevalent among Neanderthals.
