Abstract

A study conducted by Regnier et al. confirms the absence of a hypothetical ion in carbonate-fluorapatite during substitution reactions. However, there are several issues that need to be clarified. The synthetic samples used for the study are inappropriate since they do not possess the qualities of most natural carbonate-fluorapatites. The study also contradicts the existence of the correlation between nonstoichiometric fluorine and structured carbonate and carbon dioxide in carbon-fluorapatite.
