Abstract

Many people have expressed opposition to plans to demolish Sadler's Wells theatre in London, England, and to replace it with a new theatre at a cost of 38 million pounds sterling. They see it as a historic building which should be preserved, even though modern audiences find it extremely uncomfortable. Some observers are concerned about the plans devised by Ian Albery, the theatre's chief executive, claiming that there has been insufficient consultation with users of the theatre.
