Abstract

The purification and characterization of the ThiC protein from Salmonella enterica is reported. The results obtained provide insight into the activity of ThiC, which carries an oxygen labile [Fe-S] cluster critical for generation of 4-amino-5-hydroxymethyl-2-methylpyrimidine pyrophosphate (HMP-PP).
