Abstract

The Bermuda Islander, a Dutch container ship commanded by Capt. Egbert Willems, experienced being caught by Hurricane Edouard as it sailed from Salem, NJ on its homeward trip to the Netherlands. The vessel skipped the predicted route of the storm only to encounter it for five days because the winds changed course.
