Abstract
- A Gallup survey conducted Aug 7-13, 1996, found that 38% of Canadians think the Canadian government should increase its regional development spending in less-wealthy sections of the country. During 1988-1992, support for such spending was much higher at 56-61%. While 38% want spending to remain at the same level, 8% favor cutting it and 5% want to end it completely. Of those surveyed, 64% believe unemployed people moving into a region should have equal access to jobs, 29% say moves to economically sounder areas should be encouraged, and 36% want to give people assistance within their home regions.
