Abstract

A Gallup survey conducted Sept 4-9, 1996, found that 50% of Canadians would support the Liberal Party in a national elections, a decrease of 5% from Aug 1996. The Conservative Party has 18% support nationally, up from 11% in Apr 1996, while the Reform Party is supported by 11%. Western Canada is the home of the majority of Reform's supporters. Regionally, the Liberal Party has 61%, 58%, and 53% support in Ontario, Atlantic Canada, and British Columbia, respectively, while in Quebec, the Liberals are tied with Bloc Quebecois at 41%. Bloc Quebecois and the New Democrat Party have 10% and 9% national support, respectively.
