Abstract

The capillary rheometer is an improvement on the more common melt flow index and melt flow rate machines as it has been found to better address more advanced moulding and extrusion applications. This more complex machine can be used to measure the flow properties of a material over the full range of rates, geometry, forces and temperatures during the actual conversion of thermoplastic materials from pellets into moulded parts. It also provides other applications, such as grading polymers, process control optimization, temperature sensitivity, thermal stability and processing effects.
