Abstract
- A Gallup survey conducted July 9-14, 1996, found that 35% of Canadians believe unemployment is the most important issue in the country, up from 33% in Jan. While 16% believe the economy is the most important issue, national unity is only cited by 13%. Six months earlier, 20% of the citizens surveyed believed the economy was Canada's number one problem. Twenty-seven percent of Canadians believe the Liberal Party is best suited to handle the nation's unemployment problem. Regionally, Quebecers and Atlantic Canadians are the most concerned about unemployment with 30% and 40%, respectively, mentioning it.
