Abstract
- The phases of composition of NbxRu6-xTe8 are synthesized and structurally characterized using X-ray powder diffraction with the Rietveld approach. The phases are prepared from elevated temperature reactions of stoichiometric mixtures of the elements in evacuated silica ampules. Nb3.33Ru2.67Te8 undergoes isotypic crystallization with Mo6Q8, where Q = S, Se, Te, to form rhombohedral crystals. The crystal structure is composed of M6Te8 mixed-metal clusters of Nb and Ru which form a three-dimensional network due to the linking of the intercluster M-Te bonds.
