Fault injection for formal testing of fault tolerance

Researchers have developed a new fault injection model, FT/TS, to test the efficacy of fault-tolerant algorithms and mechanisms within a computer system. A formal testing procedure was developed to illustrate the major components of the FT/TS model. The model's performance was verified by applying it to an existing fault-tolorant protocol. The FT/TS was able to identify two additional fault-tolerance deficiencies within the fault-tolerant protocol.
