Abstract
- A Maryland elementary school has adopted three strategies to counter absenteeism, anonymity, and apathy prevalent among students. The students are either homeless, belong to poor homes, or have parents with little education. Each teacher follows a class from fourth to sixth grade in a looping program to build confidence and counter apathy. The exhibition center has given students opportunities to inquire and create, thus instilling self-esteem and countering apathy. The attendance incentive program has solved absenteeism problems with a positive attitude.
