Abstract

The source regions of magmas under Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada have been investigated using Pb and O isotopic data from felsic plutons. The Aspy terrane rock constitution has been found to be different from the Blair River Complex rocks which have the most primitive Pb, low and narrow range of delta-18 O values, and a different Nd isotopic composition. The isotopic values indicate towards mantle-derived, hybridized, crust-contaminated magmas. The Pb isotopic data agree well with an Nd isotopic study on plutons from Cape Breton Island.
