Abstract

All nurses should be scholars. This becomes possible when the definition of scholarship is broadened beyond narrow concepts of academic research. Scholarship also encompasses integrating knowledge, teaching, and applying knowledge to real world problems. In this context nursing practice can incorporate scholarship. A nurse-scholar becomes a nurse who uses knowledge to advance nursing practice with the goal of improving the health and well-being of others.
