Abstract
- The effects of hypertonic and isotonic saline solution on atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and the role of ANP on blood pressure and volume control were analyzed in patients with type A and type B multiple system atrophy (MSA). MSA patients with peripheral sympathetic efferent denervation and preserved afferent control of vasopressin exhibited normal ANP-related hemodynamic and osmolar activities. However, MSA patients without sinoaortic afferent control of circulation exhibited impaired ANP activities.
