Abstract

Iran's theocratic government remains as authoritarian as ever and it has not lost any of its hostility and suspicion towards the West. Iran maintains a vast security network to police its people and make sure that everyone subscribes to its idea of Islam. This same oppressive network is also used to keep Iranians away from all foreign influences and to ensure that they remain mired in old ways of thinking. Companies looking out to do business in Iran should not think that they can avoid these issues and focus solely on profits because the government considers trade, politics, and social policy as inseparable matters.
