Abstract
- Results of a Gallup Poll conducted during the week of November 4-9, 1996 revealed that 48% of Canadians are very concerned about the size of the federal deficit; 30% are somewhat concerned with the deficit size; and 6% are not at all concerned. When polled about deficit reduction options, three-fourths of Canadians favor an increase in corporate taxes and a reduction in the civil service. Fifty-five percent of Canadians believe the government should address issues of unemployment over the deficit and 53% believe the deficit should take priority over tax relief issues.
