55% approve of Chretien, Charest draws 43% approval

Results of a Gallup Poll conducted during the week of November 4-9, 1996 revealed that 55% of Canadians surveyed approve of Prime Minister Jean Chretien. Residents in Quebec were not as happy with the Prime Minister, giving him only a 39% approval rating and a 46% disapproval rating. Jean Charest, Progressive Conservative leader received a 43% approval rating, down from his 47% approval in 1995. Opposition leader, Michel Gauthier received a 21% approval rating, while Reform Party leader, Preston Manning approval rating was at 28%.
