Abstract

Two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy was employed to investigate the kinetics of coupled two electron/halide transfer reactions between (Cp2MX)+ and Cp2M where M = Ru,Os and X = Cl,Br in CD3CN at 298 K. The results demonstrated a strong dependence of the exchange rate on the identity of the halide atom on the order of I > Br > Cl and Ru > Os. In addition, the reactant state free energy ordering was found to be Cl < Br < I.
