The authors briefly discuss the legislative process that led to the new banking law, address the law's merger of the deposit insurance funds and its resolution of the problems of the Savings Association Insurance Fund, discuss the most important provisions of the law that generally affect, respectively, United States bank holding companies, national and state banks, and thrifts, and analyze the most significant changes in the consumer credit laws, particularly under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
