Abstract: The first synthesis of (-)-ushikulide A is described, which has established its relative and absolute stereochemistry. The efficiency of the strategy is because of the utilization of alkenes and alkynes as orthogonally reactive surrogates for hydroxyl and carbonyl functionalities.
